P.T.L. Meeting Minutes
November 14, 2007
Immanuel Lutheran School

The meeting was called to order by President Tom Bruns.

The Secretary and Treasurer Reports were read and approved.

Linda Woller reported that Thrivent will be sending a check for $400 as an activity bonus for the Pork Chop Dinner.

Kathy Blank reported that everything went very well again with this year’s Vendor Fair. By the time everything is tallied, we should show a profit of approximately $1900. This will be spent on our new social studies and art curriculum.

Kathy also reported that the Christmas Fundraiser is coming along well. Our share of the approximate $2900 in total sales should be about $1450. These proceeds will go into the school fund, to be used for things like entry fees, etc.

Missy Bode reported a profit of approximately $2600 from this year’s Pork Chop Dinner and Silent Auction. Lisa Fischer reported that we ran out of pork chops again this year. We discussed maybe increasing the number of chops from 675 to 700 next year. We had an abundance of buns left at the end of the dinner, but ran out of desserts. We discussed the possibility of cutting the desserts in 16’s and also putting them in clamshells instead of on plates for next year’s dinner.

The Silent Auction also went well. Carrie Wyatt suggested that maybe we could do classroom baskets next year as Silent Auction items, and possibly go to hotels, maybe even to Duluth, for weekend stay items. Ann Bruns noted that there are willing donators out there. We discussed expanding the number of donation committee members next year, and going out earlier in the fiscal year to seek donations for next year’s silent auction. We also discussed the possibility of doing a Silent Auction every other year, instead of every year, if businesses appear to get sick of us asking for donations.

Sue reported that the after service Donuts/Juice Fundraiser is going well. We raise money some Sundays more than others, but it’s well worth the time and energy it takes to do it. Anyone interested in serving donuts, cookies, coffee and juice after church, to help raise money for the playground equipment fund, should let Sue know.

The playground has been ordered, paid for, and is due to ship 11/30/07. The playground was paid for using the balance of the Playground Fund and $4700 from PTL Savings Account. The PTL CD was not used to fund this purchase. We discussed a date of 12/08/07 as a possible playground install date, weather permitting. We are looking for volunteers to help put the playground together. Sue will talk with Dave & Molly Rengstorf to see if it would be possible for us to store the playground in one of their sheds over the winter, should weather not permit this season’s install.

Sue Erdman reported that the ILS outdoor billboard is still up. We paid for the billboard advertising thru September, and have appreciated the fact that it’s up yet, probably until someone new rents that space.

Ann Bruns has completed and faxed the insurance form required to participate in the New Ulm Parade Of Lights Parade, to the New Ulm Chamber. She will put a note in the Braves reminding the kids and parents that they should come ride the float. Linda Woller will help Ann find the ILS signs from the Friendship Days Parade, to add to this year’s Parade of Lights float.

Missy reported that Ryan will indeed be able to grill, using the Nicollet County Pork Producers grill, for the Picnics In German Park fundraiser next summer. We will decide on a date at the January meeting.

A concession stand work schedule for the upcoming basketball season will be posted by Cindy Weiderhoeft.

The ILS tourney dates for this coming tournament are Jan 4, 5, 6. The 3rd and 4th grade classroom will be in charge of this fundraiser again this year. Tom Bruns will call the 3rd and 4th grade parents to set up a meeting with them to discuss the tourney set up. Lisa Fischer will check into whether or not the Nicollet Dancers would be willing to dance at the tournament. Dan Erdman reported that the number of tournaments we will be participating in this year will be limited to a total of 4 tourneys, plus the State Tournament if we qualify.

The Belgian Waffle feed has turned into a combined church/school activity. This particular fundraiser requires no food prep ahead of time. Anyone willing to work this fundraiser is encouraged to sign up. Darlene Bode is in charge of advertising the event. Darlene is also in the process of applying for Wal-Mart’s Community Grant Program, a program where Wal-Mart and SAM’S can elect to match a portion of the funds raised, up to $1,000.

Dan Erdman reported that Good Shepherd School in Mankato is growing. Their enrollment has increased and they’ve found themselves in need of hiring another teacher. They will be meeting with our school board, to discuss the possibility of sending their 8th graders to ILS next school year. We’re hoping for the possibility of other grades to follow, the proceeding years. With the basketball season approaching, Dan is sure there will be Good Shepherd kids participating in our basketball program again this year.

Jeff Griebel of Thrivent would like a list of ILS fundraisers at the beginning of each year. Linda Woller will make a list and get it to Jeff ASAP.

Lisa Fischer brought up the idea of doing a new Immanuel Lutheran School and Church brochure to attract new families to our school and church. Volunteers to serve on this committee include: Lisa Fischer, Becky Wagner, Dan Erdman, and Brenda Rosin. Lisa brought up the possibility of asking the church stewardship committee to pick up 1/2 of the cost of producing and printing the brochure. Lisa will meet with Pastor on Monday to discuss the idea with him.

Ann Bruns asked whether or not the PTL would be willing to buy a new roster liner for the kitchen. Ann will check into the cost of what she needs. Ann also asked if the PTL would have a problem with her drafting up some “general guidelines” for use in the kitchen during various fundraisers. Ann will write up the guidelines and run them passed the PTL before posting.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 16, 2008. Cindy Voges made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Jane Struss seconded it.

Respectfully submitted,

Becky Wagner
P.T.L. Secretary
