P.T.L. Meeting Minutes
Immanuel Lutheran School
September 19, 2007

The meeting was called to order by Lisa Fischer.

The Secretary and Treasurer Reports were read and approved.

Election of new P.T.L. board members took place. Newly elected officers are as follows: President: Tom Bruns; Vice President: Cindy Weiderhoeft; Secretary: Becky Wagner; Treasurer: Missy Bode. Lisa Fischer made a motion to make newly elected board member positions a 2 year commitment, Cindy Weiderhoeft seconded it, motion passed.

Dates for this year’s Vendor Fair were discussed. The 1st and 2nd grade classes will organize the event again this year. We discussed spending the proceeds from the Vendor Fair on art or social studies curriculum this year. Since the proceeds will be used for curriculum, Linda Woller will check into the possibility of Thrivent matching the Vendor Fair proceeds. Discussion regarding charging a rental fee of $5 to each vendor needing to use more than one of our tables for the Vendor Fair took place. We will check into the cost of getting more tables. A motion was made by Linda Woller, seconded by Jane Struss to set the date of November 10 from 9:00-2:00 for this year’s Vendor Fair, along with charging a $5 rental fee to vendors needing to use more than one of our tables for the Fair, motion passed.

Kindergarten will head up the Parent Teachers Conference Teachers Supper again this year.

Dan Erdman made a motion to reimburse those with float expenses from this past summer’s Friendship Days parade. Reimbursements will be taken out of the P.T.L. P.R. fund, Jane Struss seconded the motion, motion passed. Those with reimbursable expenses should hand their receipts in to Missy Bode.

Motion was made and passed to participate in the New Ulm Parade of Lights parade again this year. The parade takes place each year the night after Thanksgiving. Ann Bruns will fill out the application. Tom Bruns, Sara Bode, Jane Struss and Lisa Fischer also volunteered to serve on the parade committee.

Sue Erdman asked if there were any parents and children interested in serving donuts, cookies, coffee and juice after church to help raise money for the playground equipment fund. A sign up sheet was passed around. Serving would go along great with this year’s school theme “Serving One Another”.

Sue Erdman reported on what’s happening with the new playground equipment: We’ve chosen to purchase the equipment from a company called Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground. Their playground equipment is easier to put together, the parts interlock and there are no screws. We’ve had no luck with the grant lady we hired last year. A charge of $60 for her services will be paid, however we will no longer be using her. We’ve applied for a grant: Fighting Obesity Through Play with the help of John Elder from Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground. The committee should hear more next week regarding the approval of that grant. Total cost of the playground equipment will be $12267. This includes $1910 in shipping costs. Ann Bruns will check into other shipping options to try to save money on shipping the equipment here. Funding options to help pay for the equipment were also discussed. Cindy Weiderhoeft made a motion to borrow the total balance of our P.T.L. CD, Lisa Fischer seconded the motion, motion passed. If more money is needed, we will borrow from the athletic fund.

Lisa Fischer will check into how much money we made on the Brat Stand this past summer at Cashwise Foods in New Ulm.

We discussed the possibility of participating in New Ulm’s Picnics in German Park next summer instead of doing the Brat Stand at Cashwise. Certain food service criteria must be met in order to participate in the picnic. Missy Bode brought up the possibility of using the Nicollet County Pork Producer’s grill. Missy Bode will look into this.

A motion was made by Cindy Voges, seconded by Laurie Schugel to sell Butterbraids again this fall. Cindy Weiderheoft will be in charge of organizing, Missy Bode will help.

Dan Erdman gave a report on how Grandparents Day went this year. Grandparents enjoyed rolls and beverages for breakfast with the children, along with a program in the gym afterwards featuring members of the National Guard and Cleo The Dog. The turnout was great and we will definitely try to do this again next year.

Dan Erdman reminded everyone that on Oct 28, Kindergarten through 8th grade will sing/ring bells. As part of the “Serve One Another” school theme, the kids will be helping Pastor out with the church service.

An official welcome went out to our new teachers: Ms. Wyatt and Mrs. Jacobs. Dan Erdman reported that they’re both doing a great job and we appreciate them!

Motion was made by Parrish Skrien, seconded by Lisa Fischer, motion passed to adjorn the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Becky Wagner
