 August 18th & 19th, 2018                                13th Sunday after Pentecost

Prayer of the Day:     Eternal Father and Precious Savior, fill us with Your Holy Spirit, so that we may know Your will and joyfully walk in Your ways. Amen.

Bible Verse of the Week:   “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.  Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”   Ephesians 5:18

Prayer Concerns:

  • For Donna Bernau, having eye surgery for macular puckering Aug. 21st.
  • For those not feeling well or feeling alone.
  • We thank God for the safe return this past week of our Guatemalan Mission Team: Angie, Donna and Pastor. Thank you for taking Gods Word and spreading it with good deeds abroad to other parts of our earth.

Welcome to Worship:    Welcome to worship, where the Lord feeds us with his Word and shelters us in his love.  Visitors please sign our guest register and come again very soon.  Children, please help yourself to a Bible Busy Bag and a Children’s Worship Bulletin.

The Lord’s Supper is a special celebration of the Gospel of God’s love, forgiveness, and salvation. This sacred meal is for those who repent of their sins, believe in Jesus as their Savior, and who hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness. Communion is also a holy union of God with His people and His people with each other. VISITORS who are members of LCMS congregations are welcome to commune with us. Other visitors please check with Pastor before communing with us, or consult with the purple folder in the pew Bibles for more information.

Announcements:

  1. We look at Psalm 36; Meditation is time to think, and Christian meditation thinks about God in the light of Jesus Christ. It is “a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.”   Today on The Lutheran Hour we listen to Guest Speaker Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer speak on “In Your Light We See Light!”    Next week’s message is titled, “What is Best?”

  1. We continue with our summer sermon series from the Book of Ephesians. It would be helpful if you would read Ephesians with us, one chapter each week. The book of Ephesians speaks about God’s plan for the church. May our gracious Lord guide us to be all He intends for us!  Read Ephesians 5 for next week, please.

  1. Donut time today will go to the Crocheting and Praying group to purchase yarn for upcoming projects.  Please check out the completed items on the table outside of church today to see what we are currently donating to area cancer centers for patients undergoing chemo. New to our school bulletin board this year is an area called, Volunteer Opportunities!”  Each month we will post some activities that we could use a little extra help with at school.  There will be a variety of possibilities to suit every time frame and some that can be done at home as well.  Volunteering is a great way to stay busy, alleviate stress, and keep you active!  August and September are especially busy months at ILS as we prepare for a new school year so please check out the bulletin board at the entrance to church!   Many hands make light work!  Please contact a teacher if you are able to help in any way!  We appreciate it!

  1. Thank you to the volunteers who have pitched in to help with school prep so far! Your help is really appreciated!  There are still several things that need to get done before our open house on Wednesday.  There is a volunteer sheet on the school bulletin board marked August and also the same sheet posted in the office at school.  If you have an hour or two we would appreciate any and all help!  Thanks!
  2. THANK YOU for the great outpouring of love and sympathy and help at the earthly passing of our dear Mary. THANK YOU for your precious prayers, cards, memorials, hugs, and food and to Pastor Bernau and Pastor Jason, Organist Holly, and the Men’s Choir for the very comforting funeral service. THANK YOU, helper Ralph and secretary Lisa for all of your extra work and to Melva, Gloria, Omi and all of the helpers for your hard work and the gracious way you welcomed and served everyone. How precious it is to be surrounded by God’s faithful people! If Mary could – Mary would give each of you a giant bear hug.

Love from Harlan and all of Mary Blank’s Family

  1. Thank you to everyone who supported crocheting and praying last week and this week at donut time!  We will put the dollars to good use and hopefully give hope and God’s love to people who are taking chemotherapy.  Thank you also to Krista Riggs for sharing her sister’s yarn with us and the anonymous donor who put yarn in our tub here at church!
  2. The Finance Committee would like to apologize for any confusion that may have come about with your semi-annual statement. We have reviewed all envelopes and corrected any errors. You will be receiving a new statement soon. We appreciate those of you who came forward with your concerns.

  1. The Immanuel-Lites sell religious greeting cards in church. The card cabinet is by the office door. There are cards for all occasions and they only cost 50 cents apiece.
  2. We are looking for a reader(s) to occasionally assist in a morning service. If you feel confident and would like reading in public and love God’s Word, then you would be a great candidate to be a lay reader for a service.  Just sign up on the green Lay Reader sheet in the narthex, across from our mailboxes.
  3. Thank you to Jerry and Gloria Fitzner and Bonnie Hulke for their hard work of cleaning up/beautifying and trimming the shrubs around church this past week, as well as staining the new cemetery board for the map of the cemetery. Thank you – it looks great!!

  1. The 8th grade confirmation gift this year was the Sargent Cherry tree at school. Take a look at it. It is located outside Mrs. Erdman’s room.

  1.
