Pastor's Corner
In the media, the news reports fear, uncertainty, violence and distrust. Where do we Christians find our hope? Where is our peace?
Let me share with you where I find my peace.
Scriptures record Jesus wept two times. Once, He was entering into Jerusalem with his disciples and once, when He went to Lazarus tomb.
Why did he weep?
The first time He wept over the city, because He knew what was going to happen to Jerusalem. He knew that in the near future Rome would be so upset with the Jewish people they would destroy the temple. He wept knowing the hurt and destruction that was going to come upon the Jewish people and their place of worship in Jerusalem.
The second time Jesus cried, was when He saw Mary and Martha suffering at Lazarus tomb. Again, even though Jesus knew the outcome, He was touched by their suffering. You see Jesus’ narrative was different than Mary’s and Martha’s. In their narrative, they only saw the physical, they only saw Jesus as a great prophet, with limited authority. Their words to Him reinforce this when they commented “If only you had been here earlier then you could have saved Lazarus”
But their narrative would all change when, Jesus tells them the true narrative is more than physical and that Jesus’ authority is not limited. To prove his unlimited power Jesus lingered for two additional days after hearing that Lazarus had passed away. Finally. Jesus tells Martha that He Jesus is the Lord of the Resurrection. Not only does He explain this but then He goes on to prove it. As He turns to the tomb and calls Lazarus from it.
With this event their narrative changes as, they see that Jesus power is unlimited. He can even raise the dead after four days.
Suddenly their eyes are open and they see Jesus in the truth of Micah 5:2,4-5 prophesy.
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.
4 And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great
to the ends of the earth.
5 And he shall be their peace.”
Thank you, Jesus, for being Mary’s and Martha’s peace!
Thank you for weeping over us and being our peace in 2026!
Thank you for being our narrative until we see you face to face!
