Baptisms, Confirmations, and Weddings

Baptisms

Baptism of infants is strongly encouraged in the first month after their birth. Pastor has a pre-baptism session with the parents before the first baptism in a family. At Immanuel, the child’s sponsors are required to be Lutheran, but others may serve as witnesses. In keeping with the Great Commission, Christian education must necessarily follow baptism of infants.

After being delayed by two months due to coronavirus, Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Courtland held its confirmation service outdoors Sunday evening, June 28. Family members and a few others attended. Although it had rained in late afternoon, the weather held out—and was actually pleasant at the time of the service.

The class members were confirmed in their faith by Rev. Wayne Bernau, back left.

Weddings

As part of preparation for marriage, several pre-marriage sessions are required prior to the wedding. Sessions include a Bible Study, discussion of expectations, communication, conflict of resolution, true love, budgeting, and wedding plans.
